The Death Knell of the Bear Movement

[Error: unknown template video]
"Viewers with a weak disposition may want to turn away now..."

If only I had listened...

I'll say it again, if they wore white utilikilts and croks that matched their polos then I would totally be putting their posters on my wall.

I love when stuff like this gets folks in an uproar... it's like the Lady Bear parades during Lazy Bear back in the day. Fucking take a moment to laugh at just how silly the entire bear movement is... It's ridiculous when you think about it. But things can be ridiculous and tacky and wrong and still have value (I mean, look at Celine Dion for an example).

Anyhow, the Str8/Hater Bear mentality is so boring and tired. I'm digging that this is getting passed around and it's stirring up some discussion. I'd like to see more.

(and for the record, yes - the video is horrible and scary but again, that's why I think it's awesome)

Whew! That was embarrasing!

I agree re: crocs and kilts! yay!

I knew it would take like, 10 minutes before the "what is a bear, twink, warthog" etc debate would burst open again, and I'm not even going there.

Twink, bear, disco, boy bands = ridiculous. All of it. This is just super-concentrated ridiculosity. Its the super serious "aren't we fucking rad, smell us!" vibe that makes me just want to mock this forever.

This might even teleport me away from Brenda's closet!

yeah, I wasn't meaning to open up that whole can o' tired at all.. I'm more about these guys who see themselves as hypermasculine manly men and then they hate all over guys who are fem or who dig fashion or who, god forbid, don't like flannel and timberland boots.

I mean, I like to poke fun and have fun with people but my default setting is celebrator - not hater... If it stirs shit up and makes people uncomfortable then I am all about it. Running with the heard is so fucking 1996 - hehe...

I must have missed something, I didn't catch the "queenie = bad" vibe you are describing in regards to this video. I'll go re-read. It's all affectation, and affectation gets on people's nerves - just different ones for different people.

Oh! Now I see it, the first comments - but those are not really about the video, that's more of an inside comment to me personally about Jose's first time out at the Eagle here since he moved to town.

s'ok - I was so high up on my soapbox that I didn't have enough air to maintain a logical thought process.

I've stepped down and am feeling much better now. But yeah, the bear thing has been on my mind for a few years and the reaction from various folks on various blogs touched a wee nerve.

I am by no means a defender of BearForce1 (giggle) just was surprised at what a strong negative "those guys need to be shot" (on one blog) response it had.

This is why we can't have nice things! Can't we all just get along? ;)

Hmmm, that might be impossible... because see, well... I totally hate everyone and their ass faces!

Gp home and bite your pillow.

Actually, I really like what yer saying about all this. I just saw this for the first time tonight, and apparently I'm already so far behind everyone. In the world of LJ timeliness, "That fucking Bearforce 1 video was so this morning!" Anyway, I really liked it. Silly, satirical, dancy fun. Made me grin. Like Alanis' version of "My Humps." I loved that everyone got so up in arms about an obviously fun poke at herself and pop.

Jeez, my ursine brethren, lighten up. (Not you or Mikey, just, you know, in general.)

I just wish I thought it was a spoof. I really don't. Maybe the joke is on "Robert" the lead singer in pink and the three other guys are spoofing, but if you watch him and look at the pics on the site, he has the eye of the tiger...bear. He's in it for the prize, or he is sure selling it like he is.
