profundisIt has come to my inevitable attention that there is a significant outbreak of viral marketing amongst the LGay Blogging Bears. The symptoms of viral marketing are much like more benign blogger STD's like memeorrhea, where one blogger parrots the inanity of another in hopes that if they post exactly the same thing it will somehow be different. Or quizmydia, in which the blogger or livejournalist experiences an uncontrollable urge to answer questions. Once answered the quizmydia sufferer (or 'quizmydic') must pose the same questions to somebody else . This is how it spreads!
Once infected with viral marketing one may be able to completely recover. However something will always be taken from you. The goal of viral marketing is simply to reproduce. It doesn't care what you think about the product. You can even "jam" the viral marketing. but regardless of your intention the goal is met. You have reproduced the viral message and prolonged it's life. Eventually an unsuspecting victim will remember a product name or slogan and associate it with a friend even though that friend never endorsed or even owns the product.
