When the Varmint and I went up to "Lake Apocalypse" to take redscale pix, I found I had some film still spooled up in my SLR. This film had been in there for like 10 years. I finished the roll and then loaded the redscale and went on my way. When the pictures came back from the developer we found some pics I had taken in [livejournal.com profile] peepslayer's factory loft apt way back when. The model was named Johnny, and this was his own gear, I don't remember what I was going for with these but they kind of stir me now, in this post-9/11 world and so forth.

Transition

So the other day someone on the [community profile] dragoncon community posted a long-shot query regarding an art piece she had seen a couple years ago and regretted not buying at the time.  She was eager to find it now and her memory of it was very powerful.  As it turns out the piece was mine - Portal the image above, and a friend tipped me off that someone was looking for it.  In short order she and I were in contact and I have to say it was just really awesome to have someone out there be so into my work that they remember seeing a piece in a show at a con 2 years ago and went to these lengths to find it again.

In the process, I found it again too.  Its been so long that my art process has been in limbo mode that looking through my portfolio is almost like looking at someone else's work.  In a very real way it IS someone else's work, its the work of "Previous Me."  I took down my old art site because it was just all so tired to me, and I wasn't making anything new anyway.  I've bought a new domain for my work in a bid to prod myself into working again, so far that hasn't really happened but I am still taking photos for source material and playing around with sketches, just to work out some techniques.  I have a few ideas and some of them are ok but none of them really grab me just yet.

At any rate, its gratifying to know that something I did, even a few years back, is still resonating with someone out there.

This entire year is all about transition for me, on a number of levels.  Or more to the point, its about following through on transitions that were set in motion a few years back.  Time to move forward, through the portal, into the uncertain future, where pitfall and promise live.

It's a lot easier to cry out for blood (or sign a petition)  than to care for a stray dog.

This is most disturbing picture of this exhibit.  Not the poor starving dog tied up without food.  The completely indifferent gallery-goers with their backs turned and having a fine old time being "arty."

Why did none of them liberate this animal?  Even if simply to put it out of its misery?

Because they couldn't be bothered.  That, I believe, was the artist's point.

Anyone that would care to pose for me for the purposes of art please do let me know.  I need more figure source material - I don't care if you think you aren't model worthy, I can get a good pic out of anyone (and they may be radically manipulated in "post", so don't fret).

When done, I'll give you a copy of all the pics in web ready sizes (hint hint new profile pics) and any print of my own (8x10 or 11x14) that you might want.

You don't have to pose nude as part of the photo shoot, but that would give me more options artistically speaking.  It can be at my home, your home, or on location. We can work out timing, etc.  Essentially you just show up with a couple changes of outfits you like and we'll go from there.  Can be brief or extended shoots.

Let me know!

All responses screened.  Just comment or email me (or call, IM, etc if you have that info).

Hmm, that sounded odd.  Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I shall be attending Dragon*Con again this year (Labor Day Weekend - Sep 1-4), will be staying in the Hyatt all weekend and will be entering the Art Show and Print Shop again (look for FX Arcane Digital Designs) as well as providing Bear Paws Massage services on an appointment basis.

If you would like to avail yourself of my massage skillz and are staying in the Hyatt, Marriott Marquis or Hilton & Towers there is no travel fee!  If I can take the MARTA train and reach you within a block or two (two *short* blocks, it's hot out there, yo) travel fee will only be $10.  Otherwise cab fare applies or you'll have to come to me (my room will not always be available since I am sharing with others).

Lemme know in advance if you can so we can co-ordinate around the various con events we might want to attend. :)

P.S. Profunditeers get $5 off (Profunditeer Roster = my "friends of" list) any session you book during that weekend (in addition to any discounts that normally apply for you) as a holiday special (Dragon*Con is my high holy day).

After my "cub mediation session" on Monday the rest of the week has been fairly low-key.

Worked around the house some, de-cluttering a bit.

Rubbed my regular dude (booked weekly into Sept -yay!)

Dinner and comics with Magister Rob [profile] knight2monarch

Framed and mailed my artpiece for the Net.Works show that Ensign Mark [profile] dencoartist (yes, you're promoted!) is putting together.  I chose this one: "Mantle"

Visited a bit with Chamberlain Nate [profile] mindchaos and Cadet Jamie [personal profile] supercub.

Went to a men's group meeting with one of my massage school classmates and was quite impressed with the openness and honesty I saw at work there.  Intruiging.  Imagine a space where men can come together for connection, support, and guidance by other men without religion, politics or sex messing up the vibe (the polar opposite of the gay scene, in other words).   I did find it an interesting synchronicity that I was invited to participate this one time, which was right on the heels of my Dad's post-mortem anniversary.  This bears further investigation.

Today its off to the bank and then to Cubapalooza (coffee / movie / dinner / dessert *eg*) with Contender Cub.

Had a nice coffee date yesterday with a cute pocketdaddybear sort. We had a really good conversation, so much so that I felt like I was an auctioneer trying to jam in every thought at super-speed to cover all the bases. Whew! LOL, might have also been the chai latte, I shoulda got decaf. ;) He was doing the same thing, so it was all good.

After my micro-rant about "erotic massage" the other day, wouldn't you know this feller was all into it at one time and taught classes in it, etc. So yeah, we had a very interesting discussion of our take on it, the POV's surrounding it, the ramifications, etc etc.

I can't say I'm any more in favor of it thah I was before *as practiced in a professional session* (personal un-hired time is a whole 'nother story) but now I *can* say that I at least have some understanding of where its proponents might be coming from (no pun intended) and what needs it serves beyond the obvious.

I also realized that to understand someone's POV is not ncessarily to agree with it, and to respect it is not ncessarily to endorse it, and that's perfectly fine. We don't all have to agree or support one another to be civil, or even friendly. We just have to shut up for a second and listen to the other person's story. There is almost always a common thread or theme that we can at least say "hey that's not what *I* would have done there, but I can see why *you* would do it in that circumstance."

The best part is that when he got home and sent me a thank you IM, he said he'd had the very same experience from our convo! LOL! Pretty cool.

On a less happy note, I got the last of my art back from Borders today. I understand them wanting to do something different after an unprecedented 13 month display, so it's all good.

Takin' down my art installation from the Cafe at Borders on Barrett this weekend. Its been up there (with a couple of revisions) for about 13 months now, which was totally unexpected - it was supposedly just a one month display. I was thrilled they let me keep it up and they always remarked how people asked about it all the time, my cards kept being taken, etc...yes no one ever contacted me about any of it. With nearly 2 dozen pieces out for over a year its disappointing that I didn't sell a one of them. So now taking it down (they're going to change formats and let school kids rotate art out monthly) feels rather like a defeat than the denouement of a good long run.

It might feel less that way if I'd spent any real time or energy on ym art in the last year except for Dragon*Con (a good show, I sold well again, but it was all older work - nothing new). This year Dragon*Con will likely be the only show I do again. I just don't seem to have the time to do it all, and that kinda sucks. I could be less social, but not only does that seem unattractive for various personal reasons, it would also hamper my networking for my massage business.

*sigh*

I've taken hundreds of new pics for source material in the last few years and barely touched them as far as making art goes. I just never was as successful at the entire business process with art as I have been at massage so far. Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing when it comes to marketing my art, maybe I'm just not as good as I think I am. Maybe massage is just easier. Maybe I'm better suited to massage. I dont know. All I know is I have bills and debts to pay and art isn't doing it, so it gets the back-burner.

The sucky thing is the back-burner has guttered out and I don't know when or if it will ever get relit.
