The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen List Memes that have influenced you and that will ALWAYS STICK WITH YOU. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag fifteen friends, including me, because I'm interested in seeing what lists my friends choose. (To do this, go to your Notes tab on your profile page, paste rules in a new note, cast your fifteen picks, and tag people in the note.) Then, like, get up off your ass for a change and go be productive.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!", and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your journal, and explain what they mean to you.

Massage - well that one's a bit on the nose I reckon, but also appropriate so why not, eh? Besides simply being a way to make a living I like to think massage is also something of a calling for me. I am thankful every day that I learned this trade and still feel like I have barely scratched the surface. It has literally transformed my life.

Cubs - My milkshake, the yard, teach you, have to charge.

Atlanta - It's home (meaning the Greater Atlanta Metro Area) and I grew up around here, but I hope I don't live here my whole life. I want to live elsewhere for at least a while, but have no idea when that would be feasible. For now my travels keep the urge under control.

Comics - Bruce: I'm surprised you associate this with me, not because I'm not a huge comics nerd, but because I didn't think I'd made it that obvious to you. I have been collecting since age 5 when my uncle gave me a paper grocery sack full of them, and I'll likely be reading them from my deathbed. I dreamed of working in the comics field once upon a time, but now I know I don't have the ambition or discipline to draw a regular book. I still consider the possibility of writing though, even if on a small scale. I have decades worth of characters and stories.

Avoiding Drama - I see I need to give my P.R. person a raise. Thanks to many years of witnessing stupid perfectly avoidable drama I am indeed good at spotting it and making deft course corrections to avoid it, but sometimes I see it and dive right in knowing that A) I may be the only one at the moment who can deal with it / end it, and B) that most times it cannot actually hurt me. I have a high standard for drama I choose to deal with versus that which I dismiss though. I generally don't generate my own major drama but into every life a little insanity must fall, eh? Sometimes the drama finds you all on its own. ;)

Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can't be human.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear!

I could hear them all up to 15.8, then there was a gap and then I could hear this one. Strange. I wonder if my eardrum surgery when I was 10 gave me one small narrow band of superhuman hearing. lol the Bionic Ear.

Mine from Dave:

1) Bears - Well, you know, duh.  I mean, this one should be pretty darn obvious. :)

2) Massage Therapy - an art, a science, a career, a path. It has revolutionized my life honestly, both personally and professionally.

3) Mudslides - DragonCon! Woohoo! You, I and [livejournal.com profile] spiff partaking of such.

4) Comic Books - This is a sickness, for real.  I have been hooked on them since age 5.

5) Friendliness - Thanks, I try. ;)

This is a toughie 'cause I love robots. I will stick with the word robot and rule out A.I.'s, androids and cyborgs to help narrow it down.

I think it would have to be Robot B-9 from Lost In Space. I watched the hell out of that show in reruns as a kid and just loved him. he was smart, witty, fierce when necessary and a loyal friend and protector. The update in the movie was even cooler, especially the big battle chassis mecha version.

Christmas Meme

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I can't wrap for shit, so I go with bags, assuming I give an object for a gift

2. Real tree or Artificial?
I had a real tree once. My best friend and I picked it out from a farm, decorated it entirely with handmade botanical trimmings and it was gorgeous. It was a mess from hell. We left its dessicated corpse up til March. Artifice has its place...

3. When do you put up the tree?
Haven't put one up in a few years

4. When do you take the tree down?
see #2

5. Do you like eggnog?
Sure.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
Great Mazinga!

7. Hardest person to buy for?
Me. I either have it already, don't want one, or have nowhere to put it. Gift cards are my friend.

8. Easiest person to buy for?
[livejournal.com profile] journiey, she is always gracious as a receiver.

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Ugh.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail'em when I do'em.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Not sure, but it was probably from one of my grandmothers. I loved'em but they always gave the WORST gifts.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Christmas Story, of course.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I think of holiday gifts all year long, as I spot them.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Many times, and I'd do it again!

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Lizzies, out family favorite holiday cookie recipe.

16. Lights on the tree?
Yup

17. Favorite Christmas song?
Carol of the Bells. It's nice to inject some minor into such a major holiday.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Either or. Prefer to stay home though.

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen? Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen? Word on the street is they're planning to bump off that diva, Rudolph...

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star, please. I always thought the angel looked terribly uncomfortable with a tree up her ass.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Our family tradition was for Christmas Eve, but since the step-family entered the picture its all over the place.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Maniacs.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
When I was a child we had a totally green and blue tree and I looooooved it. I can get behind a lot of color schemes though, just not white trees or neon colors.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Usually by Christmas we were done with turkey and such and would make lasagna. Mmmmm...

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
Stability.

Even so, what was his alternative? Just let things continue to go down the path of "order" and oppression without at least doing his part to soften up the earth under the foundations of the Church State? He could no more live with that kind of moral acquiescence than he could fly. He concealed a chuckle with a cough, lest his aides become inauspiciously curious. Perhaps he should have chosen a different internal turn of phrase. He brushed a speck of white off the front of his dark suit jacket and straightened his "power tie." There was work to do.

The ambassador from New Avignon would soon be waiting downstairs with his attaches and his ostentatious finery, and Algernon did not want the arrogant peacock to get his feathers ruffled. The Archbishop-in-Chief had given him specific duties to fulfill in this meeting and though he was loathe to undertake them, he was sworn to fulfill his constitutional role. Also, this was not the time for anyone to find any cracks in his carefully crafted facade. But first he was going to arrange a surreptitious side-trip to the Smithsonian, where a particularly needful item awaited him in the Hall of Minerals.

He excused himself to the restroom, leaving his aides behind, and once inside spread his awareness throughout the elegant but conservatively appointed lounge, the edges of his aura sweeping over the cold white glazed tiles and into the stalls, behind the couches, and especially through the mirrors. Just as he was accustomed to, this lounge was clear of mundane and mystic surveillance, and thankfully devoid of people. He reached under his cobalt silk tie and pulled out his pentacle, holding it in his right hand. With his left he let power flow outward widdershins, stirring local time into an eddy.

Now that he was no more than one stroke away from the most powerful office in the world, he was insulated from the more mundane tribulations of life in the Dominion of America, but the stakes were higher than ever considering the scrutiny he now lived under, not to mention what lurked in the shadows of the capital and in the lights of its tabernacles. His gift for bargaining with Synchronicity served him well in such conditions, but he knew that every bargain struck had its price as well as its promise. Caveat Emptor, went the old proverb. Buyer beware.

I know its NaNoWriMo month and the Writer's Block meme is going around, but I thought this might be fun for creative writing fans too.  It seems like it went around a few years ago.

Write a story or a snippet of one using no more than 100 words.
  • It can be based on anything - a recollection, pure fiction, some dialogue, a dream, whatever, as long as it is no more than 100 words.
  • Try to make it as off-the-cuff as you can, just run with the first thing that comes to mind.
  • It must have complete sentences and clauses. No running out of words in mid-sentence or not finishing a thought within the 100 word limit.
  • Hyphenated words (side-mounted, yellow-green) count as one, but not hyphenated phrases (late-to-the-party, too-good-to-be-forgotten, etc.)

Post the story and this meme on your journal.

My twist: If anyone says "encore" in your comments you have to write another 100 words of the same story, and repost.  Rinse, repeat.

****

Algernon had always hated his name ever since he was a grade-school child in Mrs. Cooper's class. Kids could be cruel and he knew this from personal experience, though he'd taught his fair share of hard lessons in his day - many to the very children that had teased him. He thought of himself as well-adjusted now but he knew that was vanity - it was easy to look back and smile once you had your vengeance and no one else would dare contradict you. Not that being a witch was easy, mind you, but it did have its perks.

4. You should include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

from[livejournal.com profile] mark_monroe :

1. If I said you had a beautiful body, would you...you know...?
Get all bashful and demure? Conceited and spoiled? Maybe.  Depends on the situation.  Hold it against you? At the very least, a hug would accomplish that. ;)

2. What advice would you give someone thinking of pursuing a career as a CMT?
No matter what the schools might lead you to think, DO NOT BELIEVE YOU WILL MAKE 100K A YEAR.  Your hourly rate may be great but you won't be working 40 hours a week, at least not often, and not for long.  Plan on 30K assuming you really beat the bushes with your private practice and/or get hooked up with a decent spa / clinic somewhere.  Don't do this to get rich, do it to make connections...to add meaning...to gain skills and experiences...because you enjoy it.

3. Do you believe in the concept of "one true love"?
Not to put to fine a point on it, but no.  I think that concept is pure romantic BS and the cause of much doubt, dissatisfaction ,and pain.

4. I come to visit for the weekend. What are we going to do?
This depends on a lot of factors.  Could be anything from picture taking expeditions downtown / down by the river to Milkshake-a-Palooza.  Only one way to find out. :)

5. Guilty pleasures...we all have 'em. What's yours?
This assumes I feel guilty about them, which mostly I don't.  Now that I know my BP is high, I suppose salty snacks / foods qualify.
