From [personal profile] psifire's LJ and bearlix.com:

"Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop."
-- The King, Alice in Wonderland

For the past year it has been a pleasure to offer bearlix to the community. However, bearlix has reached a plateau and I lack the resources to push it beyond this point. Rather than to let it linger as another abandoned bear site, I have chosen instead to close.

This has not been an easy decision by any means, being emotionally vested in the site. However, I have learned a great deal from this experience, and that's something I will always have with me. Going forward I put my support behind BearCiti.

I would like to thank the community for giving me this opportunity, and giving me a chance. I would also like to personally thank both [personal profile] profundis for being a trusted advisor, friend, and emotional support; and [profile] citizenpep for creating the logo. I'm sorry that t-shirt never got made for ya.

My very best wishes to all of you.

Personal note:  Scott, you built a better mousetrap and you did it by yourself for the most part.  Marketing is for someone else - you have the coding chops and the inventiveness to go far - wherever you turn that talent - don't stop creating!

With all that's been going on lately it's obvious that people are unhappy with the actions of bear411.com. I know in the past I've made posts how we'll never do this, or never do that, but I realize some may be suspicious of a new site and wonder if it will be the same thing all over again. Because of that, I wanted to create the bearlix.com pledge.

These are our promises to you.

The bearlix.com pledge

* We will not censor. bearlix.com will never be "Big Brother". Your messages and thoughts are your own, and you are free to express them as you wish.

* We will not arbitrarily change profiles. We will never edit, suspend, or terminate your membership or profile "just because". If for any reason we must edit, suspend, or terminate your membership we shall do so courteously and with full disclosure.

* We will not discriminate. The bear community is large and diverse. We are not the gatekeepers of who is "bear" and who is not. All are welcome here.

* We will listen. Without the community, we are nothing. The ways in which bearlix.com can be contacted will be numerous and conspicuous. We will accept criticism gracefully and together make bearlix.com better.

[my own addition: check it out if you haven't had a chance yet - its free, it's simple, and it works on Firefox! ]

While Bearciti seems to be running a bit wonky today (it is still in beta after all), Bearlix.com is running just fine. ;)

I was reading the interests map thingy on the front page of bearlix and I realized that if you didn't know where stop reading where certain words and phrases run into each other, they could be mashed together visually to make new and interesting phrases.  This could be done with our own LJ interests too.

Here's the best ones I found on the bearlix main interests page:

rimming    chicago    (what <lj user="kev_bot"> will be doing for IML if he ever goes)

beer    house    dating  (sounds like a good way to end up in bed with the waitress)

dating    water  (don't drink the roofies!)

mac    chubs    (that should be a community if it isn't already)

musclebears    comedy    theatre    (I cant' help but think of those muscle guys in the Las Vagas showigrls outfits on BMB and 411)

sushi    dogs
(none for me thanks, I lost my appetite!)

anal sex    dancing    (um)

driving    piercings    (owch!)

masturbation    acting    (could be porn, could be Sean Penn)

bondage    rain    (new flavor of Gatorade?)

transformers    fucking    tori amos    (!!!)

tea    porn
(geishas and samurai and pekoe, oh my)

leather    videogames   (surely this has already been done)

kate bush    hugs   (awww, we love you too Kate!)

star wars    flirting    (young Jedis in love)

cum    japan    husky men    theater (sumo kabuki porn)

oral sex    poetry  (I may not be a poet but I might be a muse)

massage    thunderstorms   (what Randy and I had last weekend)

bjork    talking    politics    (as if politics weren't confusing enough)

trance    gaming    (that would explain the long disappearances of some folks I know)

hairy    snowboarding    (extreme bear sports!)

snuggling    games  (sounds fun!)

fur    bowling  (found in dictionary with donkey punch and dirty sanchez?)

chest hair    eating   (got a little carried away with the nipple play I guess)

eating    neil gaiman  (I'm sure he's tasty)

manga    cheese    (I don't even want to speculate)

punk   musclecubs (sounds hot!)

underwear    baseball
(I thought it was called pocket pool)

sleeping    battlestar  (better let them frakkin' lie!)

ATL Pride is less than a week away! OMGOMGOMGOMG. *deep breath* Got a lot to get ready by then.

Bear All / Belly Weekend is the weekend after, and even though I'm not officially working the event, I still have some clients to work on privately there so I'll still be busy. By then the opportunity I mentioned in an earlier post should have gone into effect and we'll see how that goes. I'm excited and trepidacious at the same time. All these are potentially good for me, but I need some of this potential to turn into actual - especially since I'm not teaching right now.

Daddy needs a new pair of crocs. ;)

Got a few client bookings today for the next couple weeks - along with my regular guy (and hopefully someone he just referred to me) I should just be squeakin by (assuming Pride goes well).

I find it very heartening that I didn't get to do the Bear All event in an official capacity that my friends came through for me and I have 5 clients for that weekend already LOL  I'll probably make more money that way than I would have all weekend with the chair in the hospitality suite. ;)

Also it looks like the business relationship between Bearlix and Bear Paws is stepping up a notch and thats a good thing, so hopefully I'll have another regular stop to make on my rubbin rounds. All that pimpin' musta paid off. ;)

Oh!  And I donated a massage session to the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus silent auction this weekend.  So if you want to help a good cause (and get a rubbin from moi) then bid on it! :)

BearLix has hit the 300 member mark!! Woohoo! Go, Scotty!

If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, or haven't heard of it yet - give Ensign [livejournal.com profile] psifire's creation Bearlix.com a shot - it's free!

Bonus hint: It's so new that places that routinely block access to adult sites like 411 and Manhunt don't recognize it. ;) Enjoy!

"Today's tinkering and prodding has produced official BearLix support for Canada and Australia.[emphasis mine] So tell all your friends across the border, and across the ocean!

The interest navigation should make a lot more sense now. I squished a number of bugs that were causing unexpected results.

For those who haven't been on lately, the message count has been updated so new message notifications also appear in the title bar. Easy to spot new ones if you use a tabbed browser.

Version 1.0 is coming faster than I ever expected and I've got you guys to thank for it! Stay tuned for more exciting news."

Home again (yay!) from Conyers after two reallllly long days. Classes went pretty well for the most part, though there were a couple rough spots. Some of the material is just borrrring so I'm trying to figure fun things to do to present it. I also have some research / reading to do on a lot of it, but I've enlisted the help of some of the other teachers that know bits and pieces of what I need, so we'll see how it goes. :)

In other news = Ensign Scott [livejournal.com profile] psifire's beta test of Bearlix.com is running full speed ahead and while I know you didn't *all* find out about it through my LJ, I have to say its really cool to see half my dang Flist on there already! You guys rock! If you haven't tried it out, come on in - it's free!

Looking forward to Comic Book Dinner tonight!
