Scary news. Wonder where the pictures are. Fancy web graphics are good at explaining, but if they wanted to drive the point home, they would have shown us this Texas-sized mass of plastic.

(Yeah, I tend to be skeptical of Greenpeace claims. I have found that on occasion, they have exaggerated their claims in order to drum up money and legislative action. I'd rather they just be honest.)

I take pretty much all Greenpeace, PETA, etc manipu-graphics with a grain of salt, but I find this one pretty plausible...I imagine it would be pretty hard to get a picture of the trash on the bottom of the Pacific though. I'll go google a bit and see what I can find.

Same here with the grain of salt.

I have to admit that my impression from the web site was that the trash was floating on the surface. I possibly skimmed it too fast looking for cool pictures. If that's not the case, while I still think pictures would be the clincher, I can understand why they don't have them.

Then again, without pictures, how do they know it's happening, and that it's the size of Texas? I mean, I've been to Texas. It's a big place... :-)

Check out the above links, a 5 minute Google session provided plenty of backup. I was merely mailed the link to the GP graphic without any other context, but it sounds like they are right on this time.
