Had some crazy ass dreams that all kinda ran together - I was at Mom's house but no one was home and it was dark...I think I was supposed to be watching the place of spending the night til Mom got back...they say you can't turn on a light in a dream, and dammit it seems to be the case (or is it just because I read that I think I can't do it) I flipped every light switch in the place and couldn't get any of them on...though the power was obviously on (lights on the stereo, TV, etc).  I was alarmed because it was too much to be a coincidence /blown bulb, and the front and back doors were open.

I kept realizing I was dreaming and trying to wake up...only to wake up into another version of the dream...one where I was sleeping in Mom's bed with Dad (don't go there - that was SOP when I was little and Mom was away visiting)...I've had a few of these dreams where Dad is alive again but something is obviously not right with him...I knew that was the case this time - he was talking about something to do with the door locks on the house, and it sounded perfectly reasonable like one of his many bits of wisdom...but I didn't even care if it did, I was just glad to hear his voice, so I just hugged him and let him talk til I woke up from that one into one where there was some police chase going on on the road just at the edge of the yard!

And then eventually I would up in some big building in town and reports were coming in of a bomb going off and killing a lot of people - when I looked over the roof the whole thing replayed itself - except in Claymation LOL - the big clay mushroom cloud erupted and the shockwave tossed all the little clay people into the air.

OK, maybe reading comic books before bed isn't such a good idea.

Now it's off to the Medical Center to rub on a new client!

If I didn't know about your background in psychology I'd be likely to just smile and nod and ignore this LOL But it would probably help a little to give you more details - Dad was actually counseling me to be *more* careful about the locks - saying something about different keys could sometimes open locks they were not made for. He had a vibe about him that was kind of urgent like he knew he'd been away and things that needed him had gone undone (he was always a workaholic).

About the light I forgot to type in that the light fixture in the bedroom would come on but only in that "light bulb about to burn out" way - mostly just a dull glow and sparks. My "Green Lantern" keychain flashlight worked fine however, and I was able to get around using it :)

Some of the lights did come on, but only in rooms I was not in, if that makes sense. Like, I could get the porch light on from inside the house but not in any room I was actually in.

There's tons of stuff with Mom and Dad and that house to play with but there is not room or time here to list it, and I'd have to start paying you to analyze it. ;)

Well anyone can play armchair shrink but at least you have some training and experience, so why people would reject that out of hand I don't know...although there something to be said for knowing just enough to get yourself in trouble! :D But I certainly wouldn't tell anyone to mind their own business when I post a dream publically and leave the comments enabled! :)

The keys opening unexpected locks thing could be taken two ways - no matter how securely you think you lock a door, someone might be able to unlock it anyway - or, the keys you have may work on more doors than you previous thought - the limit being mental (you don't expect them to do so, so you don't try it out). That sounds more like me talking than Dad. LOL

The flashlight thing I find interesting because its one of the real world items I own that have made the transition into my dream space. I dream in color most times so it was reassuring to have my green power working here (green is a long time favorite color for me).

I don't know that I explained the light switches correctly - the switch for the porch light is inside the house (like most), and as for the inside of the house, I was reaching around the corner or through a door to flip on lights for the next room. I just never seemed to be able to get the light on in the room I was actually occupying except that room of Mom & Dad's and then only that fitful unstable light.

The house in the dream is the one I grew up in and is the most common house for me to dream I'm in. It is an archtypal locale for me, and its continued existence in reality is in question as it has been up for sale for years - however there have been many obstacles to its sale, and I like to think that is at least partially Dad's doing. He loved the place and would never have sold it.

Sounds like you've been watching Heroes or something before bed... I've heard it said by people I know into the metaphysical that would most likely be the spirit of your dad paying you a visit, but as for the other symbolism.. well.. its your mind... you tell me.

Actually I had just watched the last two episodes of Heroes earlier in the evening. ;) Dad shows up in dreams now and again, and he's nearly always welcome - I wasn't upset with him - but the "back from the dead temporarily" thing can be disconcerting.

I imagine it is, and when I dream of people I've lost -- I always try to embrace it... Frame of mind and all ;-) I'd give you some love if you were in front of me!

I can never think of a time when reading comics before bed was a bad thing.

Well now you can. :) It was one of the Fallen Soldier Death of Captain America ones, very raw and dramalicious...probably not a good choice.
