Date: 2005-09-11 05:20 pm (UTC)Red Headed Men: I just think reds are hot/fascinating. Red on the head (even beard) gets you +2 Charisma in my book (my D&D book, I guess). Freckles (common red head trait) are worth +1, and they are cumulative. ;)
Frottage The fine art of getting off by rubbing one's naughty bits against the bits (naughty or otherwise) of another. Perhaps its better to demonstrate than explain...
Star Trek: Well, though I don't have a uniform or a stuffed tribble in my bed, I do know a little Klingonese and am generally quite a fan.
Insert Interest Here: I have a little OCD about some things, like I can't stand to have 149 interests so one time when I did, I had to make something up to make it be 150. I also can't stand to have interests that no one else has, thus making them not hyperlink and look different from the rest visually. Alas, I have a couple now that do that. oh well.

Re: Okie dokie... tell me about these
Date: 2005-09-11 05:48 pm (UTC)cnmt: Certified NeuroMuscular Therapist, one of my credentials.
wabi-sabi: Perhaps you should ask Claude about this one, though I think it was I that pointed out the word to him (he was already wabi-sabi before that though). Its japanese term that essentially means "the beauty of entropy" - finding beauty and satisfaction in the natural decay and fading of things as seasons change and time passes. Of course like "zen" it has as many meanings as there are people that are into it.
conversion vans: The baby brother version of an RV, something I'm totally fascinated with. I have a dream of traveling around the country in some form of self-contained home/vehicle for work and/or play with or without companions for the trip. I have always been interested in microcosm (another on my list) - little self-contained environments, and the freedom that goes with vans and RV's combines to make them intriguing to me.
masculinity: By this I mean authentic masculine mannerisms and seemings…not exaggerated caricatures of masculinity ala the Village People / Tom of Finland. To me real masculinity is simply being a man, powerfully. Just being male doesn’t make you masculine, neither does it make you a man. Men can be caring and sharing and all that gooey stuff too, but there is a certain energy to a man being manly without pretense that is ultra sexy. Femininity is a fine thing too, and people can (and do) have aspects of both, but when it boils right down to it I’m something of a gender purist. I like men to be men (without being swaggering ass-hats or emotionless statues) and women to be women (without being bitches /ditzy bimbos). Some mixture can be cool too, but I think for me if it feels authentic, I like it. Even if it’s playful /exploratory. If it feels like affectation, I don’t like it. I did my time pretending to be a strong black woman. Now I only channel Shirley Q. :P
Alrighty, tell me what: Brutalist architecture, hating Suburbia, positive negativity, Southern mn, and submissive mean to you.
Oh, and paste my meme and my questions in your journal.

d20 modern: A table-top book-based RPG (role-playing game) set in the modern world but with various freaky goings on to spice things up (magic, monsters, men in black, etc).
earthships: A type of dwelling built to meld seamlessly into its natural surroundings and be as eco-friendly as possible, and also as comfortable and self-sufficient as possible. Fascinating stuff and one wonders why the hell they aren't simply the standard for residences and small businesses.
shirley q liquor Oh Lawd! Where to begin...Shirley is a character created by a Southern comedian (comedienne?) - a very controversial character and her creator Charles Knipp has been beset with political turmoil over it. Gay white man from the South does str8 black woman from the South. I think its incredibly rich and sometimes hilarious, but then I must be a racist. You'd have to hear it for yourself to have a chance of grasping the Shirley Q experience.

Date: 2005-09-12 05:35 pm (UTC)microcosm means literally "little universe." I've always been totally fascinated with little worlds within worlds...everything from the little people and things in a doll house to Biosphere experiments and even the tiny "homes in a store" at IKEA. I have this attraction to the idea of being self-contained yet complete in oneself - the maximum variety and utility in the minimum space.
strangers with candy: the TV series starring Amy Sedaris. Its just utterly wrong like South Park yet sly instead of sophomoric.
tribal music: aboriginal and native american music and fusions based on them. Some fave artists include Brent Lewis, Kailash & Friends, Yothu Yindi, Nomad, and Scott Fitzgerald.
water play: as in fooling around in the water with a hot hairy man. Like tub, shower, pool, hot tub, etc. Not water *sports*, mind you. ;)
Do tell.

Re: Do tell.
Date: 2005-09-12 05:57 pm (UTC)Gen-X: just happens to be my generation, if you go for being labeled by your era of birth. I'm purty squire in the middle of it.
open relationships: I'm in one currently, and its been quite a learning experience, sometimes complicated but usually interesting. I'm actually very interested in a lot of different forms of relationships espeically multi-partner ones as they seem somehow more sensible (and with greater potential for exploration) to me as a gay man - yet the polar opposite of everything I was taught and thought I wanted from an LTR. I'm still exploring...can't say if I would always choose one form over another.

Date: 2005-09-12 06:00 pm (UTC)Tell me about your interest in: cigars, comics, deep dish, plumbers, and tapas.
Re: Do tell.
Date: 2005-09-13 09:33 am (UTC)Cigars: I love certain cigars, not only the sweet and smoky taste they leave on my fingers and beard, but also they're a bit of a phallic symbol (and I am, after all, the gay, so there's a double interest there). I don't know if it's a distinctively masculine object, because I know women that smoke them as well. But I'm an infrequent cigar smoker as well: there are a lot of terrible smelling cigars out there. I've yet to find a huge (as in thick) stogie I've really enjoyed even smelling, let alone smoking. I like to save stogies for special occasions, like a poker night, or sitting on a porch swing under the stars, no place special to be. I enjoy them, and I enjoy the aesthetic of a man smoking one. But at the same time, I can just as easily have an aversion to all of the nasty smelling ones, no matter how hot the guy smoking it. Sometimes, they're great...in the distance.
Comics: I taught myself how to read at age 3 on the Sunday morning comics page (my mom will vouch for this). I didn't want to wait for her to read them to me, so I did it on my own. I grew up on comics, preferring The Flash to football, and I did a lot of reading. As I got into junior high, a friend lent me Uncanny X-Men #207, where I got my first peek at Wolverine and Rachel Summers (in dominatrix garb). I was hooked. I took a break for about 8 years (the college/growing up years), and got hooked again a few years ago. I'm mostly a Marvel man (I buy about 2-6 comics a week), but I also dig the Love and Rockets series and think the graphic novel is sorely underrated as a form (check out Craig Thompson's "Blankets" for some recent fantastic storytelling sans superheroes).
Deep Dish is a duo of Iranian house music DJs from Washington, DC named Sharam and Dubfire. I've been a follower of their work since 1996, when they released their first LP of mixes, Penetrate Deeper (with collaborations with Brian Transeau/BT among others). I saw them spin at an underground in San Diego in '96, tag-teaming each others records (dub would play 3, Sharam 3, back and forth for 6 hours) and giving me one of my best nights out at a club. They signed my disc (I still covet it) and have gone on over the years to remix everyone from Madonna to the Rolling Stones to Everything But The Girl. Their sound is dark and heavy, and they're not afraid to use guitars to push their sound. They put the rock in house, and needless to say, I'm a huge fan. Their new LP, George Is On is quite good.
Plumbers: Well, Fred (my partner) is a plumber, and I've gotten a lot of perspective watching him work. Obviously, plumbers can be pretty hot aesthetically speaking (blue-collar workers are often fetishized by white-collar types), but my true interest in plumbers comes mostly from the one I get to sleep with every night.
Tapas: My trip to Barcelona and Sitges in April 2004 with
I'm just gonna pick three:
Date: 2005-09-13 11:47 am (UTC)Re: I'm just gonna pick three:
Date: 2005-09-19 09:01 pm (UTC)drug legalization: I think drugs should be made legal and taxable (in so much as I think anything should be)...the "War on Drugs" is total fucking BS that wastes billions of dollars to get nothing accomplished but to make the US the largest incarcerator of people on the planet. If someone commits a crime while high - nail them. If they can get high peacefully, why should anyone stop them? Their health and wealth are their own responsibility and there should be plenty of rehab / counseling for people to get off drugs. Put murderers and rapists away - not some schmuck with a nickel-bag.
Eschaton: Quite simply, the Last Thing / End of The World. I personally don't subscribe to any End of the World supersititions, though I suppose the "sun goes red giant" one holds the front runner space in my head. I'm fascinated and disturbed by various end of the world scenarios and by people's need to fantasize /mythologize about it.
Insert Interest Here: I have a little OCD about some things, like I can't stand to have 149 interests so one time when I did, I had to make something up to make it be 150.
